Welcome, hiring manager for Twitter!
You are here because I have applied for the currently open Director, Talent Management position. I appreciate you taking the time to consider me for this role. I’m confident you’ll be glad you did.
Please allow me to introduce myself…
Why I’m a perfect candidate to direct talent management at Twitter
I’m very experienced in career development
As the Director of Operations at Sandhills Development and again at Paid Memberships Pro, I’ve been responsible for everything pertaining to training, incentives, professional development, and career paths. Designing and implementing our completely custom yet sophisticated career progression framework was one of my most successful projects. I worked across all departments to research, develop, acquire, and institute training resources to help employees at all levels and in all disciplines continue to grow.
In addition to owning career development and growth at multiple software companies, I also spent a couple years teaching career development classes at a local college. I created the curriculum and syllabus and taught students the skills they would need to advance their own careers. The topic has been a passion of mine for the past ten years.
I have a deep passion for people and culture
My most successful and rewarding projects in the past have all centered on improving the employee experience because that is what drives me. At Sandhills Development I created a sophisticated, bespoke, and transparent system for determining employee compensation which turned a company weakness (low employee satisfaction) into a strength (over 90% satisfied with pay after implementation). I also developed a detailed yet easy to use career progression framework which allowed employees to take control of their own growth.
I live to lift others up. As the Director of People and Culture at Teal Media, I’ll be able to spend all of my time supporting and empowering my colleagues which is truly my ideal scenario.
I satisfy every requirement for the job
Some of the responsibilities taken directly from the job posting:
-
Cultivate a culture of growth and professional development across all departments
- ✅ I’ve developed detailed, usable frameworks for career growth and worked hard to ensure all staff are able to navigate them in order to achieve their own goals.
-
Lead in the development and execution of team activities and events, including in-person retreats and gatherings
- ✅ I’ve been responsible for planning and coordinating dozens of team activities and events, including numerous in-person (example 1, example 2) and virtual retreats.
-
Lead and manage a range of hiring and recruiting efforts to find top talent for the Teal team, ensuring that hiring processes are equitable and reflective of current best practices in the recruiting field.
- ✅ In 2019/2020 I lead an effort to enhance our hiring process and significantly increase the size and diversity of our candidate pool. My efforts lead to a 1400% increase in applications over the previous year with over 60% of those applications coming from women candidates.
-
Develop and administer competitive benefits and compensation strategies, increasing transparency and equity
- ✅ Compensation strategy was a priority of mine previously. With an emphasis on transparency and equity, I built from scratch a system for determining compensation for all staff. This system proved highly effective at reducing or eliminating pay inequities, incentivizing growth, and improving employee satisfaction. I also administered and designed all of our perks and benefits.
-
Develop, design, and implement people systems and policies, including employee handbook
- ✅ I have extensive experience developing company handbooks and authoring detailed, yet helpful internal policies and processes.
Why I want to work at Twitter
Everything about Teal Media’s values and mission inspires me and depicts a setting in which I could thrive. I too dream of leading a “mission-driven career” as described by Creative Director, Aruna Mall. I want to spend the next chapter of my career applying all of my experience and skills towards the growth of a modern, conscience-lead brand.
Teal Media fits that vision perfectly.
I’ve spent hours researching Teal Media and what I discovered increased my enthusiasm for pursuing this role. The reviews I found, in particular those on Clutch.co, are overwhelmingly positive and reinforce the claims made directly by the firm. Teal Media is clearly an organization living up to the high ideals they espouse.
I want to be a part of growing and improving the people and culture at Teal Media. I want to help Teal Media not only continue providing innovative design services to further progressive causes, but also to become a model employer which inspires others to prioritize investing in people and culture.
What others have to say about working with me
Don’t just take my word for it. Here are former colleagues voluntarily endorsing me:
Steve Bennett, Co-founder, Real Big Marketing (former business partner)
“…You can’t ask for a more well rounded individual.”
Pippin Williamson, Founder and Managing Director, Sandhills Development (former boss)
“Kyle is one of the most dedicated, hard-working, and caring people I have ever had the opportunity to work with”
Tyler Lau, Partnerships Manager, Sandhills Development (former direct report)
“…we were very lucky to have {Kyle} on our team.”
Adam Silver, founder, ConciergeWP (former client and podcast co-host)
Kyle constantly amazed me with his industry insight and original approaches to solving problems. He consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and has a dedication to success.
Kyle brings intelligence, creativity and leadership to any project he is involved in. On account of his mature approach to his responsibilities, I often thought of Kyle as a colleague I could always rely upon to get the job done. I have always felt he was one of the best in class and it was a pleasure working with him.
Mandy Jones, Content Manager, Sandhills Development and Paid Memberships Pro (former colleague)
Without a doubt, Kyle is one of the most valuable, hardworking, genuine, and thoughtful people I have ever met. After working with him for over two years at two different companies – Sandhills Development and Paid Memberships Pro – I know his character very well, and feel particularly well-suited to vouch for him as a friend and colleague.
Since I’ve known Kyle, he has brought tremendous value to the teams we’ve been a part of together. He not only pioneered a game-changing career progression framework and made massive efforts in planning and organizing events as Director of Operations at Sandhills Development; He also spent countless hours getting to know his colleagues (including myself) on a personal level.
It’s always been obvious that Kyle is totally invested in helping everyone on his team reach their highest levels of performance and personal satisfaction. Plus, his ability to see different perspectives and potential outcomes make him an excellent communicator and strategist across multiple arenas.
However, even with his creative talent, mind for business, and technological savvy, what strikes me most about Kyle is his kind, earnest nature. He is truly the kind of person you want on your team – the full package.
